If Cinderella taught us anything, it's that sometimes all you need is the right shoes to make you feel like royalty.

No wonder Queen Elizabeth II chose Roger Vivier to design the magic slippers for her coronation in 1953. The ladylike ruby-studded kidskin pumps he created were decorated with a fleur-de-lis motif inspired by those on the Imperial State Crown that the new queen wore.

Recently, Roger Vivier's creative director, Bruno Frisoni, was moved to pay homage to Her Majesty's peep toes with a capsule collection for women who rule, no tiara required.

The resulting fleur-de-lis-themed accessories have an edgy opulence that is more knock-your-socks-off than noblesse oblige.

Whether you plan to be queen for a day (as I feel when I wear the Roger Vivier shoes that Bruno made for me to celebrate my Order of the British Empire last year, pictured) or queen of the night, we've filled this issue with everything you need to help you put your best foot forward. Enjoy.

Headshot of Glenda Bailey

Glenda Bailey was named editor in chief of Harper’s BAZAAR in May 2001, and in the past 18 years she has turned the title around to usher in a new era of success. Her approach—original, sometimes irreverent, and always in keeping with BAZAAR’s great tradition of high fashion and innovative art direction—has received significant critical recognition and has contributed to what the Independent has referred to as “the Bailey legend.” In January, 2019, Bailey earned a damehood from Queen Elizabeth II for services to the GREAT Britain campaign and UK prosperity, charity, fashion and journalism.
